Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, write, and edit technical manuals and documentation for the US Army, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to military standards.
  • Utilize XML editors (e.g. ArborText or Oxygen) to create and maintain structured, high-quality technical content.
  • Work with Interactive Authoring and Display System (IADS) to develop interactive technical manuals.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, government technical writers, and other team members to gather information and verify accuracy of content.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with relevant military specifications and guidelines.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and revisions of technical manuals to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability.
  • Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, remote work environment.
  • Travel as required, 10-30%, to various locations (generally military bases) for training, data collection and on-site documentation.

 

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements/Certifications:

  • Minimum of 3+ years recent experience writing technical manuals for the US military using IADS.
  • Proficiency in using XML editors, such as ArborText or Oxygen.
  • Fluency with military documentation standards (Mil-Std-40051-1D and Mil-Std-40051-2D) and requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to produce quality work independently and as part of a remote team.
  • Strong problem-solving, with a willingness to look for “better ways” to reach goals
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality documentation.
  • Comfortable with uncertainty and able to pivot quickly in response to changing requirements.
  • Willingness to step outside of assigned role to support the team
  • Passion for and ability to learn.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance.

 

Preferred Qualification/Requirements:

  • Supervisory or managerial experience
  • Experience writing technical manuals for the US Army

 

Minimum Education:

  • BA/BS degree from accredited four-year college/university.

 

Preferred Education:

  • MA in English, Communications or related field

 

Security Clearance Required:

  • US citizenship and an active Secret Security clearance required

 

Travel Required:

  • 15-30%
